- The drawing was recognised as by Giuseppe Salviati by Philip Pouncey when in the C.R. Rudolf collection. It is possibly related to two lost paintings mentioned by Boschini: a frescoed figure above the Valier altarpiece in the Frari, Venice or by the arms of Doge Francesco Donà (1545-53) in the Sala dello Scudo of the Palazzo Ducale, Venice. The BM drawing does not correspond to the space above the altarpiece so it is perhaps more plausibly associated with the figure once in the Palazzo Ducale. An unrelated red chalk figure of Faith is in the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa (Inv. 290; McTavish 2004, no. 4, pp. 337-8, fig. 4)
