- Description and date based on GW Reid, 'A descriptive catalogue of the works of George Cruikshank.'
Reid's catalogue gives a date of 1827 to the wood engravings associated with these sketches.
Cruikshank contributed illustrations to several editions of Pilgrim's Progress see Cohn 98-100 and Reid 4504, 4675, 4946 although none of these correspond with the date 1827. A more detailed description of the headpiece associated with these illustrations is given by Reid 3555.
