- MacDonald et al: 'The etching probably dates from early 1879. Whistler offered the copper plate for publication to the Fine Art Society, London dealers, on 14 March 1879, but they rejected it: later they changed their mind. It almost certainly dates from the same time as 'Old Battersea Bridge'.
