Urban Gottfried Bucher, "Das Muster eines Nützlich-Gelehrten in der Person Hernn Doctor Johann Joachim Bechers" (Nuremberg & Altdorf, Johann Daniel Tauber Heirs) 1722; containing 5 prints including: portrait of Becher seated in front of an organ with a celestial ray illuminating a mirror, a homunculus emanating from the mirror and a horse or donkey at his feet -- double-page diagram of mechanisms for perpetual motion -- double-page chart showing sun's rays connecting to the interior of the earth -- double-page map of the five rivers, Rhein, Donau, Elbe, Oder and Weichsel -- an emblematic print showing a scale of fortune and misfortune. Bound together with letterpress titlepage in red and black and letterpress text with decorative blocks and initial letters. Marbled boards.
