- Curator's comments
- From a series of 22 plates on the villa Aldobrandini; the series consists of a frontispiece, two pages of engraved text, and nineteen views of the villa and its painted decor; the plates were designed and etched by Dominique Barrière in Rome and published in 1647.
The complete set is bound in a leather album and is followed by two other series, one depicting other Italian villas, the other facades of Roman churches (12 plates).
The portrait of Louis XIV appears to have been executed by a different, unidentified engraver.
