Description
'Les Français peints par eux-mêmes; encyclopédie morale du dix-neuvième siècle. Province.' (Paris, L. Curmer) 1841, tome I of III; containing 18 tipped-in hand-coloured wood-engravings/lithographs showing figure in typical dress for each section after Gavarni, Monnier, Charlet, Pauquet and Férogio among others, and another 124 vignettes within the text including headpieces and decorative initial letters. Together with tipped-in frontispiece showing figures on the deck of a ship with a man preaching to the right, 'Les français / province / tome premier' inscribed on the sail, publisher's device on title-page, dedication, and illustration list at the end.
