- Francis Egerton, 1st Earl Ellesmere, bought the drawings put up at the 6th Sale of Lawrence's collection, organised by Woodburn who had acquired the entire collection from Lawrence's executor Keightley. They remained in the family, with the exception of those not exhibited at the Lawrence Gallery (for the sale), which Egerton presented to the Ashmolean, until their sale in 1972.
