- Curator's comments
- Possibly related to a processional banner for the church of Mozambano commissioned in June 1576 mentioned in the artist's account book, L. Puppi (ed.), 'Paolo Farinati Giornale (1573-1606), Florence, 1968, p. 15. The artist also received a commission from the 'Compagnia di la Madona' in Casaleone in August 1594 (ibid p. 131) to paint a banner with Roch and Sebastian together. The reclining pose derived from Michelangelo's 'Adam' would be difficult to combine with a standing Sebastian and it is more likely intended as a design for a single figure as in the Mozambano banner.
