- Arms's records who that he spent 1352 hours on this plate, which implies that he worked from photographs. Apparently Arms could draw with both hands at once; if so, this plate would have taken an ordinary mortal twice as long. Between 1943-7 Arms was a civilian war artist, and made four such prints of U.S.Navy vessels, which were published in large editions for wide public sale.
