- Traditionally attributed to Parmigianino, and re-attributed on its acquisition to Schiavone (see report to Trustees, 23 January 1959).
The drawing is not included in F.L. Richardson's 1980 monograph on Schiavone, but it is included in Sara Dell'Antonio's list of drawings by the artist and dated to the mid-1540s when the influence of Parmigianino was particularly marked.
