Portrait of Jacques Balmat wearing a navy jacket and purple waistcoat in a circular, ageing stone frame; beneath is an old ledge under which is a old, cracked, inscribed tablet supported by two wooden bars; an axe and a broken spear cross each other beneath the portrait; foliage grows around the whole structure.
