View of the town of Herisau, above which a church spire rises in the centre-left distance; beyond the town are some low hills, at the foot of which are a few more houses; a road travels from the foreground into the left hand background; a peasant with a load on his back and a group of four cows walk along the road in the centre foreground; in the left hand foreground is a hard rock outcrop, and in the right hand foreground is a marshy pond before a dense group of trees.
