The design conflates two of Maratti's early compositions of the subject: the altarpiece in S. Giuseppe dei Falegnami, Rome (for which see 1946,0713.1399), and one of the two lunette decorations of the Alaleona Chapel in S. Isidoro. The handling, though weak, is somewhat Cortonesque.
