This is a particularly striking scene in which the light suggested beyond the horizon dominates the composition. The biblical figures are interestingly lost within the imposing landscape, given that Claude generally enlarged the figures when translating the scene from the painting to irs record in the Liber. Claude produced this painting for an unspecified patron in Amsterdam, and is now lost.
