This sketchy drawing records a painting Claude did in 1647 for a client in Naples. The closest parallel in existence is a painting formerly now in the Yamanashi Prefectural Museum of Art (Roethlisberger 1961, fig. 64). That various details are omitted suggests that Claude either executed the drawing at speed or that he made the drawing after the painting had left his studio.
It should be considered alongside LV22 (BM, 1957,1214.27) in terms of technique and genre.
