It is not known who the client of the painting that this drawing records was. It was, however, recorded in the collection of the Duke of Portland in 1961 (see Roethlisberger 1961, fig. 58). The drawing corresponds to the painting exactly, although the forms are more than usually enlarged and hence the composition appears particularly compressed.
