Jaffé mentions Titian's painting Virgin and Child with St John the Baptist in relation to the sketch at the top right recto. The painting is now at the National Gallery of Scotland (on loan from the Bridgewater House, London), inv.no.NGL 061.46. The child at the bottom of recto recalls Titian's painting Virgin and Child with Six Saints, now at the Pinacotecca Vaticana, Rome; H.E. Wethey, 'The Paintings of Titian, I, The Religious Paintings', London, 1969, no.63.
The drawing on the verso is after an unknown composition by Titian. Van Dyck adapted the composition, replacing St Matthew with Madonna and Child, in his painting now at the Musée Louvre, Paris, inv.no.1231.
