M. Jaffé suggests that the recto sketch is either after an Assumption study or a painting by Titian. See, for instance, Titian's Assumption of the Virgin in Santa Maria dei Frari, Venice; H.E. Wethey, 'The Paintings of Titian, I, The Religious Paintings', London, 1969, no.14.
M. Jaffé relates the Virgin and Child on the verso to Titian's painting now in Luigi Albertini, Rome; H.E. Wethey, 'The Paintings of Titian, I, The Religious Paintings', London, 1969, no.52. Also known (in reverse) through an engraving, see 1950,0211.180. D. Jaffé, however, suggests that the sketch is in fact closer to Padovanino's version in the Duomo, Padua. The kneeling donors belong to the composition on fol.11, 1957,1214.207.11.
