- Richard Wilson produced many still-life drawings such as the present one and 1881,0212.22. These exercises in light and shadow would have helped him in his development as a landscape artist, moving from the rococo landscape designs of his early Italian years to the more complex Roman topographical views (Solkin, p. 159).
