- Curator's comments
- Advertised in 'Mercure de France', June 1686, as a plate engraved by Lubin after Le Sueur; however, Mérot ('Eustache Le Sueur', Paris 2000, cat. No.R.30) rejects the attribution of the composition to the French painter, and describes it as a heavy pastiche borrowing from Poussin, Le Sueur and Bourdon.
