Some of Corinth's most remarkable self-portraits were made at the end of the First World War. Besides this lithograph, there is a drypoint (Schwarz 337) inscribed "Revolution. 10 Nov. 1918", that is the day of the foundation of the German Republic after Kaiser Wilhelm II's abdication and flight to Holland the previous evening.
