- (Text from 'From Manet to Toulouse-Lautrec', BM 1978, cat.138)
In May 1899 Lautrec was released from the clinic after his cure from alcoholism, and was dispatched to the south of France to complete his cure. This lithograph records an English barmaid at the Star in Le Havre where he was waiting to take a boat to Bordeaux. Joyant thought that this print was done on a journey before 1899, but a painting of the same model (Dortu 684) which is dated 1899 proves him wrong. It was published in an edition of c.15 impressions.
