This lithograph was made for 'L'Escarmouche', but the magazine collapsed and Kleinmann took over the publication, issuing an edition of 100. The play 'Madame Sans-Gêne' (Mrs Free-and-Easy) was written by Sardou and Moreau; Réjane took the part of la Maréchale Lefebvre, a former laundress whose husband was elevated by Napoleon. In this scene the unwilling lady is being taught to dance by the courtier Despreaux (acted by Galipaux).
