Fragment of a book-illustration consisting of the bottom right compartment, being a scene with Captain John Smith lying at the mercy of Powhatan; Smith lies in central foreground, his head on a block, three men stand over him with a club, an axe, and a bow and arrow; crowds of men watch on either side of large room with fire at far end; Pocahontas begs for his life to the king, both of these figures are shown to a larger scale; illustration to Captain John Smith's "The Generall Historie of Virginia" (London: 1624)
