A preliminary study for the painting in the church of SS. Apostoli, Venice datable to 1754-5 (A.P. Zugni-Tauro, 'Gaspare Diziani', Venice, 1971, pp. 88-9, pl. 158). The painting differs notably from the present study with the Baptist standing, Saint Joseph is in the centre of the composition, and the cherubim are to the right of the Virgin. The basic composition of the drawing is, however retained in the finished work.
