Curator's comments
This drawing seems to be the right-hand half of a composition, of which the left-hand half is preserved in a drawing at Windsor (No.5975), though some portion of the centre must be lost. The BM drawing was exhibited at the fifth Lawrence-Woodburn exhibition, no. 40. Lit.: A.E. Popham, 'Catalogue of Drawings in the Collection formed by Sir Thomas Phillipps, Bart., F.R.S., now in the possession of his Grandson, T. Fitzroy Phillipps Fenwick of Thirlestaine House, Cheltenham', London, 1935, p. 86, no. 2
