Pouncey & Gere 1962
In the Fenwick Catalogue as "School of Michelangelo" and described as part of a sketch-book of which other leaves are 1874,0808.20 and a sheet of studies formerly in the J. Boussac Collection (sale, Paris, 1926, 10-11 May, lot 25, repr.). The latter has no connection with 1946,0713.375 and 1874,0808.20; and these, though they approximate closely in style, are not necessarily from the same sketch-book. 1946,0713.375, in particular, comes close to Polidoro himself, especially in the verso in such details as the profile and full-face ('man in the moon') heads and the articulation of the stooping figure.
