Curator's comments
This and BM 1946,0713.166 were originally part of the same sheet. The 1995 Ostade Exhibition label text (exhibited with 1946,0713.166): The two sketches were probably separated in the eighteenth century, dividing the 'verso' figure study. They now approximate to their original arrangement. In style, they exemplify the more liquid touch employed by Isaak, compared with his elder brother's, and are datable to around 1643.
