Curator's comments
For a pair see also 1946,0713.157. Both drawings were dated 1604 in Amsterdam. The symbol at upper right has been connected with Dr Johannes Furnerius (1582-1668) by Maud van Suylen and Jane Shoaf Turner (Master Drawings, vol. 60:4, 2022) pages 435-466, and no. 92 in appendix. The authors identified 125 drawings and 1 print bearing these marks. The authors identify the artist's name on the verso of the drawing as the hand of Abraham Furnerius, the collector's son. Literature: E.J.K. Reznicek, 'Die Zeichnungen von Hendrick Goltzius', Utrecht, 1961, cat.no.381.
