- Curator's comments
- Thalestris is the mythical amazonian queen who is said to have visited Alexander the Great.
One of a number of stipple heads of Kings and Queens of similar format printed on quarto sheets, by Chapman, published by J. Wilkes, 1795-1810 (1943,1113.205-210, 212-239, 242-246). They probably appeared as illustrations to the 'Encyclopaedia Londinensis, Universal Dictionary of Arts, Sciences and Literature ... Embellished by ... engravings. Compiled ... by John Wilkes' (24 volumes, published 1810-1829, primarily by J. Wilkes, some volumes by G Jones).
