The note in Boerner's catalogue seems to imply that the attribution is an old one, and the drawing may be left under it for the time being; though other drawings attributed to Craesbeeck are more Brouwerish and grotesque.

A letter from the donor dated 13 May 1941 states that he had recently purchased this drawing from Mr N.Fleischmann of Dorland House, Regent Street, 'the well-known art dealer', but on being told by him that the BM had expressed interest in acquiring the drawing now wished to present it to the BM.
This item has an uncertain or incomplete provenance for the years 1933-45. The British Museum welcomes information and assistance in the investigation and clarification of the provenance of all works during that era.
