- Purchased with an attribution to Giovanni Paolo Pannini. In fact copied from Volume II, plate X of Piranesi's 'Le Antichità Romane', 1756 (J. Wilton-Ely, 'Giovanni Battista Piranesi, the complete etchings', San Francisco, 1994, I, no. 367). Hylton Thomas initially believed that this was a autograph study for the print, but in a correction on p. 10 of his monograph he stated that he accepted that it is a copy.
