Curator's comments
Each portrait was etched on a separate plate before being printed with the same decorative frame. In other words, there are usually multiple platemarks on a single sheet, the different components--portrait and frame, or text, vignette and border--requiring separate printings. Other bibliographical references: Brunet III, 1151; Cicognana 2306.
