- Curator's comments
- The departmental register identifies the sitter as Robinson and notes that the print is 'after Moon'. This is probably Henry George Moon, though he was a flower rather than a portrait painter. Moon was commissioned by Robinson to illustrate 'The Garden' in 1880, and Robinson considered him the greatest botanical artist of the time (Brent Elliott, 'Dictionary of Nineteenth-Century British Scientists'). Dodd made another portrait of Robinson in 1908 (Schwabe 27, see 1937,0710.67).
