- This drawing is in Volume I of the Fourth Series of Downman's 'First Sketches of Portraits of distinguished persons'. He compiled four such series. The Third Series (consisting of four volumes) and the Fourth Series (six volumes) are in the Department, with the exception of Volume 5 of the Fourth Series which is represented by photographs (240.b.7).

The whole of the Fourth Series and Volume 3 of the Third Series were lent by Mrs Maitland to the Amateur Art Exhibition held at Carlton House Terrace in May 1893, published in Catalogue of Portraits by John Downman , A.R.A (1760-1824) [P&D N.I.9]
A portrait of Earl Percy was exhibited by Downman at the Royal Academy, London in 1816, no.409, (Williamson, G.C., John Downman ARA (London, 1907), p.lxv)

- Five albums (4th series, 1-4 and 6) were bought from Lady Longmore by the BM, and another five (the 2nd series) by the Fitzwilliam. She owned 14 volumes in total, the rest being the 3rd series in 4 vols (with 128 drawings). See Jane Munro, 'John Downman 1750-1824', exhibition catalogue, Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, p.77.
