- Curator's comments
- This and 1935,1214.6 were published by A.E.Popham in BMQ X 1935, pp.154-6. They came from an album of 35 views that Colnaghi had broken up and exhibited in October-November 1935. Some of the drawings corresponded with his etchings; the others were certainly by the same hand. Popham was unable to find any prints that matched the BM drawings, but added that he had no complete collection to compare them with. Popham dated them c.1643-4.
See the catalogue published by Colnaghi, in which the two BM drawings were not included as they had already been sold to the BM. It states that the album was 'lately in the collection of an nobleman' - in other words Colnaghi's had acquired it from an old English collection.
