Object:
The Green Room at Drury Lane Theatre. Tom & Jerry introduced to the characters in Don Giovanni.
Description
Illustration to Pierce Egan's Life in London, page 324. Tom and Jerry, arm-in-arm, and holding opera-hats, are introduced by (?)Elliston to Mme Vestris, in quasi-Spanish costume as Don Giovanni. Another Spaniard (1.) is (?)Harley as Leporello. Mercury leans against the chimneypiece and Pluto sits on a settee by the fire. A dandy in top-hat and white trousers stands in the background, and there are another actor and three actresses in the costume of their parts. 1 June 1821 Hand-coloured etching and aquatint
