Maria Foote stands on a stone terrace (right) firing a cannon at a target across a small ravine. Behind the target (left) crouches the ass-eared Hayne, with a bundle on his back inscribed West India Property. The gun-carriage is inscribed King's Bench Battery. Maria gracefully puts a match to the touch-hole, saying, Ha, ha, ha! Three thousand pounds damage done and not within a Foot of the Bulls-Eye-either—I shall get three rounds of applause for this. She holds a long Berkeley Rammer; on the ground is a similar implement: 12 inch Spunge, with a box of Love Letters and a Theatrical Amunition Box. The outer rim of the target is inscribed A Heineous Breach Of Promise. From the gun's muzzle issues a blast of flame inscribed Verdict £3,000, and a shower of papers. The largest, Licence, strikes the bull's-eye, followed by Love Letters, Presents, Protestations, Vows, Oaths, Promises. Hayne says: Another Shot like this will play the Devil with the Coffee plantations I might have all I wanted like the Colonel, for the 20th part of the money. What an Ass I have made of myself. Below the target and the gun-site a plain stretches towards Berkeley Castle. Col. Berkeley, in hunting dress, rides towards Hayne, shouting, I am the boy for her after all Tally ho, Tally ho!— Two small children bestride the gun; the foremost flourishes a rattle, crying, Tally ho Papa Tally ho!
