- Description

Two reduced anonymous copies of plates by William Heath, possibly etched by Sharpshooter using the Paul Pry symbol, etched on a single plate; for descriptions see the originals.
In No. 16086.A, 'ant' is written 'aren't'. A background is added: a group of paunchy publicans holding up tankards on poles draped with mourning scarves. They say: 'Well may we hang our pots in black, and ring our fortune's knell, For heavy tidings we have got about the beer to tell'. The publicans lose their monopoly by the Beer Act: instead of a licence from the magistrates, by custom restricted to the occupiers of certain houses, beer might be sold by anyone taking an annual licence from the Commissioners of Excise at £2. 2s. 0d. a year. No. 16092.A is placed below this design. c.1830
