After the title: —This Print is Dedicated to the Prince and Princess of Denmark, shewing the Custom of the Country!!! A carriage and pair is stopped by bailiffs; one man addresses the coachman, holding up a bludgeon with an authoritative gesture; a paunchy bottle-nosed man, holding a long bill, argues with a top-booted man (? a groom). A very décolletée lady with feathers in her hair descends the steps of the carriage; inside, the heads of three other ladies are dimly seen. The four say respectively: O! what an exposure; O! Lord Y—k you're wanted; O! Dear Y—k you're wanted; O! Darling Y—k you're wanted. A second groom holds the head of one of the restive horses, which are immediately behind a second carriage, at the window of which is the Duke of York, saying, D—n that Upholsterer! he has lost a good Customer for I wear out a great quantity of Beds Sofas &c among the Ladies. In front of the horses stands a dandified footman supporting a fainting lady who has lost her wig and is completely bald; a younger lady holds a smelling-bottle to her nose. Behind the coaches are mounted Life Guards, suggesting that the carriages are driving to a levée or Drawing-room. Below the design:
Inraged he cried "I've ladies here my person d'ont disparage
When Richard said your person's safe we only want your Carriage
In vain were arguments perforce the Bailiff's suit was granted
Lo off they drove while through the crowd ye cry was York youre wanted. c. June 1822

- (Description and comment from M. Dorothy George, 'Catalogue of Political and Personal Satires in the British Museum', X, 1952)
In June the Duke of York's carriage was seized while he was at a levée. Journal of H. E. Fox, 1923, p. 125. Cf. No. 14424. It is here implied that it contained a bevy of the Duke's mistresses (cf. No. 11726). The Crown Prince and Princess of Denmark, the future Christian VIII, and his second wife, Princess Caroline Amelia of Augustenburg, arrived in London on 15 May (Ann. Reg., 1822, Chron. p. 87). As a model pair they are contrasted with the Duke of York. 'York, you're wanted' was a catch-phrase, see Westmacott, The Age, Aug. 1837, quoted Pearce, The Jolly Duchess, 1915, p. 321.
