An illustration of the song 'By Mr. Dibdin', which is engraved beneath the title, with the refrain,
'There's a sweet little cherub sits perch'd up aloft
To keep watch for the life of Poor Jack. '
Jack stands, looking at the spectator, holding a cane in his right hand, with his left he points up towards the head and wings of a cherub which emerges from clouds in the upper right corner of the design. He wears a round high-crowned hat, his hair, cut across his forehead, falls curling on his shoulders.
He has a striped waistcoat with short coat and petticoat. Behind is the sea with a ship flying the Union flag. Cf. BMSat 7677. c.1790
