- Curator's comments
- A version of this drawing with blue and grey wash is in the Turner Bequest, CCCLXXVIII-7. Recent scholarship has proposed that 1935-2-19-4 and drawings like it are by Henderson himself (see A. Wilton, 'The 'Monro School' question: some answers', Turner Studies vol. IV: 2 1984, p.20) Croft Murray found them too skilled for an amateur, yet Farington, when he saw them in 1795, specifically notes that they were 'very ingenious and careful' (Diary, 1 December 1795, vol. 2, p. 420). See E. Croft Murray, 'Pencil outlines of shipping at Dover of the 'Monro School'', BM Quarterly X 1935, pp.49-52.
