Curator's comments
This is one from a series of twelve; for comment see 1922,0410.265. There is a fine crack in the plate near the letter "g" in "Fuga". D. Freedberg, following Oberhuber, argues that these figures are clearly added by another hand. See D. Freedberg, 'The Prints of Pieter Bruegel the Elder,' Tokyo, 1989, no.10. Oberhuber has also suggested that the high quality of the etching in this print indicates the work of one of the van Doetecum brothers working alone. See K. Oberhuber, 'Zwischen Renaissance und Barock,' 1969.
