- This is important evidence for an early seventeenth-century English drawing book, which is otherwise only known in later editions entitled 'A Book of Drawing, Limning, Washing or Colouring of Mapps and Prints' published by Jenner from 1647 and 1666, and by later publishers up to 1731. For a full discussion of the different editions of this book, and the connection between Dürer's reputation in England and its remarkably long publication history, see M. Doherty, 'The Young-Mans Time Well Spent: Learning to Draw from a Master' in R. Myers, M. Harris and G. Mandelbrote, 'Publishing the Fine and Applied Arts 1500-2000', London, 2012, pp.51 -78. The portrait is derived from Lucas Kilian's engraving after Johann Rottenhamer's painted copy of Dürer's 'Feast of the Rose Garlands' (see 1845,0809.578).
