- This lithograph is part of a set of twenty four numbered plates. The set is dated circa 1828 by Marie, but is undated in Béraldi and Champfleury.
The BM volume is complete and includes the original paper covers. The front cover is the titlepage and includes a lithographed vignette of three figures, a puppeteer dangling a puppet on strings, another man playing music and a third observing two puppets on the ground. The title of the set 'Galerie Théâtrale' is lettered on this titlepage above the image, 'Henry Monnier' is lettered within the image, and the following production line is lettered beneath the image: 'Paris. Chez H.Gaugain & Cie" rue Vivienne No"2, et E.Ardit, rue de la Monnaie, N"11.'. Some of the prints in the BM volume are blindstamped 'E ARDIT PARIS' (in a triangle).
Both Béraldi and Marie include the lithographed front cover as part of their entries (Béraldi also includes it in his numbering sequence 397-421) and list of each plates. Marie also records the publication details.
Champfleury provides a summary of a set of lithographs, titled 'Galerie théâtrale', but does not list the individual plates. He quotes the publication line on the 'frontispiece' and the one lettered on the plates themselves. The publication lines vary slightly from those in the BM volume. In Champfleury's entry, the 'frontispiece' reads: 'Chez E. Ardit, éditeur, rue Vivienne.' and on the plates: 'Lith. de E. Ardit. Chez Gaugain et Ce, rue Vivienne, et chez E. Ardit, rue de la Monnaie.'
