This is perhaps the finest of the later self-portraits. The original transfer drawing, signed and annotated "Lithozeichnung", is in the National Gallery of Art in Washington (Rosenwald collection; reproduced Herbert Bittner, 'Käthe Kollwitz drawings', New York 1959, plate 106; not in Nagel).
Additional lit.: F. Carey and M. Egremont, 'Portrait of the Artist: Käthe Kollwitz' (Birmingham, Ikon, 2017), cat. 6.
