- After a drawing by Parmigianino in the Musée du Louvre (inv. 6480). Bartsch thought the composition to be by Barocci and doubtfully attributed the cutting to Ugo da Carpi. It is in fact certainly after Parmigianino, and Naoko Takahatake attributes the cutting to Niccolò Vicentino (private communication).
The blocks were first cut and printed in the Vicentino workshop and issued in the 1540s. This is is one of two impressions in the BM printed in the Vicentino shop (see also 1858,0417.1575). The blocks were reprinted by Andrea Andreani in 1605 (see 1860,0414.104, 1895,0122.1235 and W,4.71).
For further information and bibliography see the entry by Naoko Takahatake in the online catalogue 'Atlante delle xilografie italiane del Rinascimento', ALU.1002.1.
