Folded sheet from 'Notes et Souvenirs sur Charles Méryon...' by Aglaüs Bouvenne (Paris: Charavay, 1882). On the title page, a woman seated on the edge of a rock looking out into the distance, with a book in her lap; the rock is inscribed with a Latin motto; foliage in the immediate foreground; composition set as a vignette between lines of text. Inside the sheet, a headpiece: a laurel wreath encircling Méryon's monogram, at centre, with poppies on either side; composition set above an introduction to Charles Méryon. Below the headpiece, a leaf wrapped in a ribbon above the beginning of the text; below, the decorative capital letter 'L' depicted on a copper printing plate with a clamp fastened at left.
