- Curator's comments
- This is the title-page to a series of forty-eight engravings showing hunting friezes mounted on paper and bound in nineteenth-century red Morocco with extra papers (with mount residue, where three drawings were lifted) and inserts. The album is gilt-lettered on the spine: "Venationis / Piscationis / et / Aucupii / Typi / J. Bol / 1582"; also gilt decorations and borderlines.
Bound with the prints is an invoice to W.A. Baillie-Grohman from Bernard Quaritch, dated 25 January 1899. Also inserted is a page from a Maggs Bros Catalogue of 1912, No 296, p.175, describing, as item 1363a, an (incomplete) set of Venationis prints by Bol, for £42 (not this set; see inscription for more detail).
