Curator's comments
The "Figures de l'Histoire de France", which employed a large team of the best French and European engravers, was undertaken in two different phases, the first overseen by Le Bas, the second by Moreau le Jeune. This volume contains plates only. The plates in this volume are numbered 1 to 144, then 131 to 154. See the concordance for the 1779 and 1785 editions in Bocher, pp. 207-208. The final plate in this volume is numbered 154. This was the point at which the project was interrupted by the French Revolution. Moreau added 10 further plates at a later date, numbered 155 to 164, but those are not included here. The accompanying text, not included here, was written by the abbé Garnier.
